"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It's what the sunflowers do."
~Helen Keller~

This is the ONLY sunflower out of about 30...that I planted from seedlings...that survived and bloomed! It seems that the area I planted them has cutworm infested dirt :(

I certainly enjoyed watching it grow from the 4 inch plant into the stunning flower that looked over my backyard for a few days. Squirrels enjoyed all of its seeds....so it is now just a memory!

Next year I will try again...but will fight the cutworms!!!

I really hope you enjoy this picture, it is my favorite of all that I took over the few days it was in bloom.

Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps Practicing at WDHS

I was browsing through my highschool marching band website on August 6th...when I stumbled upon the fact that the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps was practicing on the football field. The last time I was lucky enough to watch Drum and Bugle corps was back when I was in high school and went to a DCI championship. I remember it like yesterday and it was soooo exciting to watch. If you have never experienced a drum and bugle corp...then you really don't know what I mean.
I took my son Nick with me...he didn't understand the excitement I was exuding as we entered the field. He questioned my enthusiasm and was laughing at me. Once we were seated and he HEARD the thunder that the band creates that radiates through your body and rattles your chest, he finally understood what I was talking about. The smile on his face was worth the ribbing I had received...and he sat in awe while I took these pictures and the video at the bottom! I hope you enjoy!

It is a free zoo located in Cape May County, NJ. It is more than 85 acres, holds more than 550 animals and is open 364 days a year. Such an awesome place to visit if you are ever in the South Jersey area!

Daisy...Daisy...

These BEAUTIFUL flowers are in my front yard...in the same flower bed that the irises are in that were in the previous blog. Daisies...and anything that even looked close to a daisy were my mom's favorite flower. Today would have been my mom's 89th birthday. Geez I miss her...but I find it sooooooo comforting that these flowers are in full bloom at this time! I hope that you enjoy these pictures as much as I did taking them. I think the last one is my favorite! Please tell me what you think!!!
